Welcome To The Mark D. Bair Woodcarving Studio!
Award winning carver and artist Mark Bair got his art career off to a start later in life. In 2001 he first put knife to wood and hasn’t looked back since. With a life long passion for folk art and the outdoors, carving was a natural way to express his artist passion. As in the ways of the baymen and decoy carvers of years past, Mark uses traditional hand carving tools to create his work. He has always loved fish and fishing, so bird carving was soon left to pursue fish carving.
With free flowing and sensual style Mark creates one of a kind fish and whale carvings incorporated with found objects and copper work. Mark believes that seeing the artist’s hand and the natural beauty of the wood, as well as a feel of being passed down for generations, is crucial to convey in each finished piece. It is often said that Mark’s fish look as if they are going to swim away. What better compliment could a fish carver receive?
